The story
Sinds oktober gebruiken orthopedisch chirurgen dr. Harbh, dr. Depaepe en dr. Moens van het AZ Jan Palfijn Gent voor alle knieprothesen de chirurgische robot ‘ROSA’. De artsen staan uiteraard zelf in voor elke beslissing die ze nemen en voor elke handeling die ze doen. De robot geeft tijdens de ingreep voortdurend informatie, feedback en aanwijzingen gedurende de stappen van de operatie.

There is no 'average body shape' or an 'average knee' on the operating table. With the help of the robot, the prosthesis can better fit the unique anatomy of each patient.
For example, in the past, a '0-leg' was straightened during the knee prosthesis procedure.
However, this does not always feel natural for the patient. With the robot we can decide to put the leg back into the position it was before the osteoarthritis and have the prosthesis fit perfectly anatomically.
'ROSA' consists of 2 components. One part functions as a navigation system and continuously records the exact position of the leg of the knee to be operated on in three-dimensional space.
The second part is a robotic arm controlled by the surgeon.
This robotic arm guides the surgeon to remove tissue and bone during the placement of the knee prosthesis.
