Rapid Recovery or "quick recovery" is a program that was developed for shoulder, knee and hip prostheses. The program ensures that you recover faster and can resume your normal activities more quickly.
With Rapid Recovery, you as a patient are more actively involved and informed about your operation, appropriate anesthesia is used during the operation and we use improved pain control after the procedure, so that you can walk and move again fairly quickly after the operation.
If you are scheduled for a knee, hip or shoulder prosthesis, you will be given an appointment for a preoperative physiotherapy session and a preoperative information session. During the individual preoperative physiotherapy session A lot of information about rehabilitation is given, postoperative exercises are already taught and transfers in and out of bed, climbing stairs and crutches are prepared. This session lasts 20 minutes and is scheduled in the hospital linked to the general information session.
Takes place every 1st and 3rd Monday of every month the Rapid Recovery information session place in a group, in which the entire care process is discussed (from consultation with the treating physician, through preoperative physiotherapy and information sessions to the procedure itself and the rehabilitation afterwards). Afterwards, patients can contact the social services consultants or the preoperative preparation department with all their questions, to complete their file and to schedule the necessary appointments.
The Rapid Recovery program ensures that the patient is better informed, recuperates faster, experiences less pain, becomes self-reliant more quickly, spends less time in hospital, in short: recovers faster.
