A knee prosthesis tailored to each patient-specific knee anatomy

The robot allows us to work even more tailor-made to the patient. There is no 'average body shape' or an 'average knee' on the operating table. With the help of the robot, the prosthesis can better fit the unique anatomy of each patient.

For example, in the past, a 'bow-leg' was straightened during the procedure for a knee prosthesis. However, this does not always feel natural for the patient. With the robot we can decide to put the leg back into the position before the osteoarthritis was present and to have the prosthesis fit perfectly to its own anatomy.

High accuracy and continuous feedback

In addition to working more tailor-made to the individual patient, the robot also provides continuous feedback on the accuracy of the placement during the procedure. The surgeon can make adjustments during the procedure based on the data provided by the robot.

The robot ROSA consists of 2 components. One part functions as a navigation system and continuously records the exact position of the leg of the knee to be operated on in three-dimensional space. The second part is a robotic arm that is controlled by the surgeon. This robotic arm guides the surgeon in removing tissue and bone during the placement of the knee prosthesis.

Thanks to the robot ROSA we can measure the tension of the ligaments before making final decisions and we can predict in advance what the end result may be when we plan the placement of the prosthesis. In the past we relied on our experience during the procedure, but now we can measure our experience with exact values ​​and adjust them intraoperatively.
